Wedding Belle is having some exciting new features on the site! One of them is our very own blog, Soon to Wed! It will feature Owee Salva, a photographer who is on her journey towards marriage with her fiancé, Richard. She will be sharing her wedding updates and stories with us on the site all throughout her engagement. Here is her first entry entitled “Providential”.

Owee at Calayan

I don’t think there’s anything ordinary about how Richard and I met. For one thing, we met at a tiny port in Aparri while waiting for our boat headed to Calayan, Babuyan Islands. Who plans vacations to that place when it takes 12 hours by bus plus 8 hours by boat to get there?

Funny thing is, he wasn’t even supposed to be there.  He and his priest friend were headed to Camiguin.  But by some stroke of luck, they missed their boat and were convinced by the parish priest of Calayan (who happens to be my friend) to hitch the boat that was prepared for our group, and spend a couple of days in Calayan before heading to the other island.

Richard probably saw something irresistible in me while I bombarded him with knock-knock jokes almost half the time we were in transit. Imagine that, being stuck under the sun for 6 hours in the middle of the vast ocean, and forcing yourself to laugh at corny jokes.  That must be love. Hahaha

We spent a day and a half walking, hiking, and swimming around Calayan.  By the time they had to leave for Camiguin, I already had a little crush on him.

When we both got back to Manila the following week, we immediately reconnected.  We shared stories and photos while we talked on the phone and chatted for hours.  When our priest friends finally found out that were already a couple, they only had one word for us.  Providential.
